Women and Law in Southern Africa Research and Educational Trust-Zambia (WLSA) is part of a regional network with offices in seven countries in the region. The organization was set up in 1989 by female lectures in southern African universities to respond to the socio-legal needs of women in the region and to develop women’s rights methodologies. Their mission is to contribute to the socio-economic political and legal advancement of women specifically within the Southern African countries of Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This is achieved through (a) collaborative strategic and action oriented research in the socio-legal field and (b) lobbying for legal reforms and policy changes on laws and practices which discriminate and disadvantage women.
