Public Relations Officer

Description

A career in PR involves gaining understanding and support for clients, as well as trying to influence opinion and behaviour.

PR officers use all forms of media and communication to build, maintain and manage the reputation of their clients. These range from public bodies or services, to businesses and voluntary organisations.

They communicate key messages, often using third party endorsements, to defined target audiences in order to establish and maintain goodwill and understanding between an organisation and its public.

Requirements

Reporting to the Head of Human Resources and Administration
Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication
Full Grade 12 / Form V School Certificate
Minimum of 4 years working experience in a reputable and busy organisation
Able to write comprehensive press reports and other reports
Excellent English language oral and written communication skills
Effective presentation and interpersonal skills
Computer literate
Goal-orientated and able to work independently to achieve results, as well as collaborate in a diverse team

Responsabilities

Undertakes timely and accurate preparation and issuance of press releases in order to update the public on the operations of the institution Carries out timely and accurately preparation of responses to press and public queries in order to stats the Councils position on topical issues Coordinates effectively, the timely production of brochures, magazines, newsletters, videos, and other materials in order to facilitate the dissemination of information Ensures timely archiving of media reports, videos, publications, and magazines/brochures in order to facilitate efficient storage and retrieval of information and Undertakes effectively the planning and coordination of Public Relations events in order to create awareness on the operations and functions of the Council
