Significant experience (10 years) in the open pit mining industry.
Degree in Engineering, Mining, Geology or similar discipline
Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia or meets the requirements to be registered
Experience in large multi pit operations utilising large scale mining equipment ie drill rigs and blasting experience essential.
Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead teams of highly skilled and experienced personnel having diverse cultural backgrounds.
Prior experience in similar roles in Sub-Saharan Africa with demonstrated positive outcomes and advantage
Current Zambian drivers licence or be able to obtain one
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English
High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Zambia
Experience in managing costs and budgeting
Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications
Confident communicator with senior management, legal entities and external stakeholders
Provide leadership necessary to ensure that employees and any contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that meet or exceed industry standards and any applicable legislation
Assist in development of the Mining Planning time cycles and content.
Ensure the ongoing use and development of the Mining Management Operating System.
Manage mining operations to ensure that all equipment is operated in the most cost effective manner and productivity targets are met or exceeded.
Oversee the development and implementation of budgets and Life of Mine plans.
Oversee and assist in the development, implementation and monitoring systems and procedures to ensure operational targets are met, costs are minimised and all adverse variations are reported and remedied.
Provide support to review every aspect of the Mining maintenance and Technical Services Departments to ensure that opportunities to add value and increase stakeholder wealth are identified and implemented.
Create a working environment which ensures that employees gain new skills and achieve their full potential by developing and implementing effective training and mentoring programmes.
Ensure training and coaching is provided to all employees, with specific attention to implementation of defined Succession Plan.
Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness.
Promote and comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
